Clown Masks
Through Mask to Clown
I encountered the making and use of mask on an entirely different level when in 1978 I studied a clown through mask intensive with master teacher Richard Pochinko.
Each participant makes six masks with eyes closed, paints them by a similarly unconscious process and finally wear the masks in two repeated improvisations:
Return to Childhood and Waving Good-bye to Someone You Love. In the end there is a "marathon" where all six masks are worn in succession and their energies encapsulated under the seventh mask - the Nose.
