WE
GATHER AS GOD'S PEOPLE:
--Acknowledgement of the
Territory:
As we gather here today on the traditional land of the Anishinaabe (the Ojibwe or Chippewa Nation), the
Haudenosaunee (the Iroguois, and the Oneida Nation), the Lenape (the
Delaware People), the Attawandaron (the Neutral Nation or Algonquin
People) and the Wendat (Huron People). We remember their stewardship and honouring of the land and their willingness to live in harmony with
their neighbours. We also remember those who came to this land
from around the world, some seeking opportunity, some seeking safety and
asylum, some brought against their will. We celebrate all who came
to make Canada their home, but we remember that not all were given equal
welcome or equal treatment in this land. Today, as we celebrate the 98th
anniversary of The United Church of Canada, we reaffirm our commitment
of living into right relations with all.
